It is an exciting time to join the School of Physical Sciences (SPS) as a Lecturer in Physics to deliver excellent teaching and curriculum development in core physics and mathematics within our Undergraduate and Masters programmes. 

As well as teaching and assessment, you will also contribute to the development of new teaching material, resources, modules, and programmes in line with the School’s policy of research-led student experience.  To facilitate this, you will be embedded within one of the Physics research groups in the School (Applied Optics, Physics of Quantum Materials or Space Science and Astrophysics, as appropriate).

As Lecturer in Physics you will:

  • Teach as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within an established programme of study 
  • contribute to the research group by, for example, attending meetings and contributing to scientific discussions 
  • Engage in scholarship activities to further develop the teaching of Physics at Kent
  • Provide academic and administrative support to students and the wider school

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • First degree or equivalent in Physics or a related subject area and PhD in Physics (or nearing completion)
  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in core physics and mathematics to work within established teaching programmes 
  • Understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to student need 
  • Ability to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning

The School of Physical Sciences (SPS) is an aspirational interdisciplinary school covering forensic science, physics, and chemistry.  It has enjoyed extensive investment over the past five years, which has seen a doubling of academic staff as well as around £15 million spent on laboratory refurbishment, equipment, and general upgrade. Currently there are approximately 850 undergraduates including 90 Postgraduates, 42 full time academic staff with a team of some 28 administrative and technical support staff.
