Do you have substantial experience working in a student facing role, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills?  Can you work on your own initiative and judgement, handling unexpected student queries and issues when they arise? 

If so, this role as Engagement Support Officer may be ideal. 

The Engagement Support Officer works with colleagues across the Student Engagement team to provide a professional and wide-ranging service that gives students access to prompt, consistent and practical support, to ensure that all students are supported to fully engage with study and get the most from their time at University.

This role is based in Canterbury. 

 As a Student Engagement Officer you can expect to: 

  • Provide support, advice and guidance to both undergraduate and postgraduate students requiring non-academic advice, including contact with students via email, calls, and in person drop-ins, as well as regular support meetings and follow-ups as required.
  • Responsible for administration of a range of processes including mitigation, intermissions and withdrawals. 
  • Responsible for Committees and Boards to support student progression and completion. 
  • Work with colleagues to develop best practice, and deliver consistent, accurate and timely services to benefit the student experience.
  • Responsible for the Attendance and Engagement Monitoring process, and related interventions.
  • Manage records in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements, to support work across the team and to allow for accurate data reporting and insight. 
  • Provide supervisory support to Engagement Support Coordinators on a day to day basis

To be successful in this role you will have / be:

  • Substantial experience of working in a student facing role in Higher Education
  • Ability to advise on a wide range of student pastoral issues and the ability to judge when to refer to specialists
  • Strong judgement and initiative with the ability to effectively interpret and apply policies and procedures, understand and solve problems, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Experience of working in an office environment with regular use of different software, platforms and systems, and a willingness to learn new systems and tools to support your work. 
  • Experience of and ability to manage own workload, prioritising tasks as appropriate to meet changing demands and deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a professional environment with email, phone and face-to-face contact with staff and students of diverse backgrounds, experiences and needs.
  • A willingness to support work across the wider Student Engagement team and adapt to changing needs and requirements.
