IT Assets Officer

The Information Technology Services department  at the Univeristy of Kent are seeking an IT Assets Officer who will be responsible for ensuring the effective management and compliance of IT hardware and software assets across the University. This role will play a key role in supporting the integrity and security of the University's endpoint IT, while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The role will operationally oversee the delivery of staff hardware and software provisioning, related services and future enhancements.  In this role you will be responsible for maintaining relationships with University customers, third-party suppliers, and the appropriate ITS delivery team(s).

As an IT Assets Officer you can expect to be involved in:

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive policies, processes and procedures for Hardware Asset Management (HAM), Software Asset Management (SAM) and Cloud Asset Management (CAM) including procurement, inventory tracking, deployment, maintenance, renewal, budget management and disposal
  • Conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies pertaining to IT hardware and software asset management. Co-ordinating the planning and response to external software licensing audits
  • Regularly reviewing and optimising the IT hardware and software asset portfolio and associated management processes and service delivery to improve efficiency, accuracy, value for money and compliance
  • Liaising with staff and students about software and hardware requirements to inform the future IT asset management portfolio to meet institutional objectives

What will you bring to the role?

  • Experience in IT hardware and software asset management, including procurement, inventory tracking, and compliance
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards related to IT hardware and software asset management
  • Knowledge of software licensing and common organisational license models. (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, VMware, etc.)
  • Familiarity with hardware and software asset management tools and systems
