If you have experience in a finance or accounting role and you are looking for your next career move, this full-time fixed term Finance Officer role within the Finance Directorate at the University of Kent may be the perfect step for you.

You will work in close collaboration with the Deputy Finance Manager of the Finance Shared Services (FSS) team, as well as with other colleagues in the FSS team to deliver services in areas including a range of frontline transactional processing,  month/year-end work, expense claims, virements and journals, and monitoring of divisional budgets in connection with expenditure approvals.

You'll be joining a dedicated services team and will be expected to use your initiative, prioritising a busy workload and drawing upon your experience to problem solve while maintaining a high level of customer service.

 As Finance Officer you will:

  • Provide operational management support to academic Divisions in close liaison with the Deputy Finance Manager (FSS), Business Partners in the Finance Directorate and other staff in FSS, ensuring that Divisional service requirements are met through optimal operational efficiency and compliance with University and other financial regulations. 
  • Exhibit competency for organised service delivery and customer care, primarily facilitated by the TopDesk service management system and other finance systems/facilities.
  • Promote adherence to the University’s Finance processes and procedures by Divisional colleagues, providing training, guidance and support where necessary, with the  aim of achieving transactional processing efficiency and systems standardisation. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • GCSE English and Maths (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent A
  • Foundation level financial qualification (e.g. AAT) or actively studying towards full qualification or equivalent A,I
  • Previous experience in a similar finance/accounting role implementing financial procedures in a busy environment A,I
  • Knowledge of UBW (Unit 4 Business World) or similar financial system A,I
